
The online survey of 11 to 19-year-olds found that 75 per cent of the 263 respondents would prefer to talk to their parents and carers about health concerns, while 51 per cent would rather discuss issues with friends.
Only 48 per cent said they would approach their GP with health worries, while 17 per cent said they would talk to their school nurse and seven per cent said they would keep the problem to themselves.
Meanwhile, 62 per cent of young people said they acquire most of their general health information from their parents, 55 per cent from their school or teachers, 47 per cent from the internet, and four per cent from celebrities.
