
The survey, which questioned 1,600 11- to 18-year-olds, also found that only a quarter have visited their school nurse for anything other than immunisations, while 69 per cent of young people said they were unsure about how to access their school nurse for help.
Meanwhile, eight out of 10 said they would feel more comfortable about visiting their school nurse if they could choose whether they saw a male or female nurse, or went with a friend.
The government is in the process of developing a new "vision" for the school-nursing workforce. As part of this, the Department of Health (DoH) commissioned BYC to conduct the survey and focus groups with a further 200 young people.
