Young people in Shropshire have been given £143,800 in youth opportunity fund money and £124,300 in youth capital fund money to spend on youth schemes annually.
In this largely rural county, they take the view that a larger number of small grants makes the most impact and generally offer grants of up to £5,000.
What's the structure? In 2006, young people devised a structure based on area forums for each of the five administrative areas of Shropshire. These local forums apply the criteria, consider and score applications and make decisions.
Members of the county-wide Speak Out group check and approve the decisions and handle any appeals.
