Expected hospital admissions of 15- to 19-year-olds from 2002-05: 87
With a traditional manufacturing history, Bradford is a town catching up with the service industry - a sector that has become more important in newer towns with better established infrastructure. The remaining manufacturing industry tends to contribute to local air pollution. This environmental factor, linked with low levels of education about diet and exercise, typically found among disadvantaged groups that are well represented in Bradford, are likely to be key factors in the actual number of admissions for asthma being higher than our prediction based on national figures applied locally.
- Source Actual admissions represent emergency hospital admissions for the financial years 2002-03 to 2004-05 combined. Expected admissions are calculated by applying the national rate to the population in each relevant local authority for the age group and condition selected.
