Expected hospital admissions of 15- to 19-year-olds from 2002-05 57
Two groups dominate Nottingham: students and young professionals, and deprived families and single people. The dominant group is young families in upper floors of social housing. Partly through poor education and partly through low incomes, these people eat poor diets.
It is likely that many drink and smoke heavily, and drug and alcohol abuse is common. There are serious health problems, often affecting the heart, liver and respiratory organs. A concentration of families, many single parents, living in deprived social housing on the edge of Nottingham, share similar characteristics.
[BX] Source Actual admissions represent emergency hospital admissions for the financial years 2002-03 to 2004-05 combined. Expected admissions are calculated by applying the national rate to the population in each relevant local authority for the age group and condition selected.
