The five centres – Blackland Farm in East Sussex, Foxlease in Hampshire, Glenbrook in Derbyshire, Waddow Hall in Lancashire and Ynysgain in Gwynedd, Wales – will close on 31 December, due to concerns around low uptake and lack of funding for renovations.

The charity has confirmed that all 2023 bookings and events at these venues will go ahead as planned.

The venues have been used by Girlguiding members, schools, local businesses and families for events, training, camps and activities for more than 100 years.

Trustees made the decision to sell the centres after finding that they had been used by less than 10 per cent of Girlguiding’s membership over the past decade, with the charity adding that most members choose to hold events in other facilities within their unit’s local area.
