More than 300 leaders, Guides, Rangers, Brownies and Rainbows gathered at Girguiding’s headquarters in London to campaign against the decisions.

Adult members from across the country held an overnight vigil in the capital on Saturday (17 June) before being joined by young members in St James’s Park.

Members hand-delivered letters at the headquarters and met chief guide Tracy Foster and Girlguiding’s chief executive Angela Salt.

The five centres – Blackland Farm in East Sussex, Foxlease in Hampshire, Glenbrook in Derbyshire, Waddow Hall in Lancashire and Ynysgain in Gwynedd, Wales – will close on 31 December, due to concerns around low uptake and lack of funding for renovations.

More than 31,000 people have signed a petition against the closure of the centres. They say the decision has been made without adequate consultation with Girlguiding’s 300,000 members.
