Girl Guides centenary comes to a close with celebrations across the UK

Publish Date: Edit Date: 1 min read Youth Work
More than 500,000 Girl Guides across the UK will join together tonight (20 October) for the final event in a year-long celebration of the organisation's centenary.

The event, entitled Vision, will provide an opportunity for the girls to consider what they want from the next 100 years and how to make it happen.

Girls and young women aged five to 25 will gather in small units across the country and at large celebrations in major cities to hear a broadcast prepared by chief guide Liz Burnley. Trafalgar Square will host 6,500 girls and 5,000 more will watch giant screens at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

"Vision gives our members across the UK the chance to reflect on what we have achieved, and ask ourselves, 'what next?'" said Burnley.

"At the start of our second century, my personal vision is for adults and parents who have ever been involved in guiding, and those who would like to try, to consider joining the thousands of amazing volunteers. They are the ones who help make guiding happen for today's generation of girls and young women."
