
Total membership now stands at 538,247, up 8,247 from last year’s level of 530,000, an increase of around one member every hour in the past 12 months.
News of the increase comes in the same month as funding of £10m to train thousands of new volunteer leaders for youth groups like Girlguiding UK, the Scouts, and Police Cadets was announced by central government.
The money will go to Youth United – a coalition of the major youth volunteering organisations – to recruit and train up 2,700 adult volunteers over the next two and a half years to run 400 new youth groups, offering the prospect of further growth for Girlguiding UK.
