Passion for psychology
Growing up, I faced various challenges that tested my strength and perseverance. These experiences allowed me to develop deep empathy, compassion, and an understanding of the children I work with today.
My passion for psychology led me to explore emotional regulation and the importance of early intervention when supporting children. Recognising how crucial mental health is in a child's development, I pursued higher education to gain the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact. I qualified with a degree in psychology in 2021 and went on to complete a master's in child and adolescent mental health in 2024. These academic achievements have reinforced my commitment to advocating for children's well-being and providing them with the support they need to thrive.
Appreciation of school
My first school role was a pivotal moment in my journey. I started at the school I am in currently as a parent volunteer, while completing my level 3 teaching assistant course. During this time, I developed a deep appreciation for working in the school environment and witnessing the growth and progress of the students. In 2017, I was offered a position as a teaching assistant.
I loved working with the children, watching them develop their strengths and overcome challenges. Seeing their confidence grow and knowing I played a role in their success was incredibly rewarding.
My love for working within the school setting blossomed, and I realised the profound impact that positive support and guidance can have on a child's life.
Role models
I have been fortunate to have incredible support and role models along the way. One of those being the head teacher who gave me the opportunity to work within the school – someone who was also my own primary school teacher. This connection made the opportunity even more meaningful.
I have also been supported by people I work alongside, who have encouraged me every step of the way. Their guidance allowed me to develop professionally and personally.
My parental role models have also been instrumental in shaping who I am. Their hard work, resilience, and unwavering support have been a source of strength throughout my personal and professional decisions. They instilled in me the values of perseverance, dedication, and the importance of never giving up, even in the face of challenges.
Helping children flourish
A key aspect of my role is recognising the importance of early help, ensuring that children and families receive the support they need.
Safeguarding is at the heart of my role, ensuring that every child has their voice heard and feels safe, secure, and valued within our school community. I am committed to fostering an environment where children know they are supported, and their wellbeing is a priority.
I have had the privilege of implementing whole-school projects that support children in various ways, creating initiatives that enhance their educational and emotional development.
I work with an incredible team of people who all share a genuine love for the children who attend our school. Together, we strive to create a nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring environment where every child can flourish.
