From a young age, I knew I wanted to work with children. My mum, who worked in a playgroup, was a huge inspiration, and I often accompanied her to work whenever I wasn’t in school.

Parental role model

I also loved participating in the buddy system at my primary school, which involved mentoring a reception student when I was in year 6. My role was to show them around school, guide them to lunch, and queue up with them for assembly every morning. Years later, when my buddy joined my secondary school, she reached out to tell me she remembered me. That message made me feel incredible, because although she was only a few years younger than me, it was amazing to think that I had made an impact on her life and helped her in some way.
