NYA Update: A helping hand from Think Big

1 min read
The National Youth Agency is managing a new employee volunteering programme for O2's Think Big campaign. Over the next three years, O2 aims to have 40 per cent of its staff participating in Think Big as a helper.

O2 Think Big helpers do several useful things. Within the Think Big programme, they provide support to young people who are running community projects. They do this through an innovative online support centre where young people can post questions on any topic, from budgeting to gaining publicity.

They also provide one-to-one mentoring to young people as part of the second stage of the programme, Think Bigger.

But they do much more. O2 wants to provide support to youth organisations, too. This might take the shape of a one-off team challenge to renovate an old or underused facility. It could also involve something less physical and more cerebral, such as a team or individual offering specialist advice or ongoing consultancy in areas such as marketing, communications or business planning.

National Youth Agency development officer Andy Callard said: "Just think of the benefits that this initiative could bring to cash-strapped organisations. This is about much more than painting old community centres - loads of companies do that. O2's Think Big campaign is about putting something very valuable back into the sector. Who'd turn down free consultancy?"

O2 helpers will be able to access volunteering opportunities through a dedicated area of the O2 Think Big website, managed by the National Youth Agency. If you have a volunteering opportunity or team challenge, register by emailing helpers@o2thinkbig.co.uk.
