They were part of a group of 19 young people who marched to No. 10 for the Right Year for Children (RY4C) campaign, a year of action to strengthen children's rights in England.
The campaign marks the 20th anniversary of the UK ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The messages, from thousands of children, were sent on paper footprints, each footprint symbolising one signature. The aim was to remind the government to remember young people's rights when creating new laws and policies.
The UNCRC gives children everywhere more than 40 major rights, including the right to education, family support, an adequate standard of living, health, play and recreation, protection from all forms of violence, and the right to be heard and taken seriously. The convention requires that all children be respected as human beings with views, feelings and ideas of their own. Unlike many countries, the UK still hasn't made the convention part of its domestic law.
