The purpose of the APPGC is to promote first-class and innovative policy solutions and raise the profile of children’s issues in parliament.
The most recent theme was “Children and Recession” and the group – which is chaired by Baroness Massey of Darwen – met to discuss vulnerable children and child protection with speaker Tim Loughton MP, parliamentary under secretary of state for children.
Loughton – whose ministerial responsibilities include safeguarding, children in care, social work and families with multiple problems – spoke about child protection and vulnerable children, and how they have been affected by the recession.
The meeting was the last in the series on “Children and Recession” and the APPGC will soon be publishing a report of these meetings.
The next theme is “Are children and young people getting the opportunities they want?” and NCB will soon be launching a call for evidence for organisations to feed into the inquiry and potentially participate in the meetings.
The APPGC also hosts meetings on bills and other topics throughout the year.
