NCB Now: Youth justice report highlights concerns

1 min read
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Children (APPGC), clerked by NCB, will be launching its annual report Children and Young People in the Youth Justice System, on 6 December in Westminster.

The report will be presented to the minister for youth justice Crispin Blunt MP to coincide with the publication of the government's green paper on sentencing and rehabilitation. This will be the first indication from the coalition government of the direction their youth justice policy will take and an opportunity for the APPGC to play a part in informing that direction.

Youth justice was chosen as the APPGC's theme for the year 2009/10. Six seminars were held in parliament at which academics, professionals and young people were invited to contribute their experiences, research and recommendations to the youth justice debate. The meetings traced a young person's passage through the criminal justice system, exploring the courts system, custody, resettlement and asking questions about the way we treat young people in trouble. The report reflects the substance of these meetings as a collection of observations to present to ministers.
