NCB Now: Advocacy services in Wales

The Welsh Government is committed to improving and increasing advocacy for all young people.

This enables them to access support, have a voice and be involved in decisions that affect them. There are several providers of advocacy services in Wales. However, some advocates work in isolation and do not have the opportunity to meet with others to discuss their work.

This is where the Advocacy Practice Exchange comes in. The network, facilitated by Children in Wales, provides the opportunity for advocates to share practice, experience and knowledge. As one member of the group put it, as advocates "we are gardeners, not mechanics. We cannot fix people. We need to nurture children and young people and let them grow".
