It wants to increase the number of 11- to 25-year-olds accessing services from 200,000 to 300,000 a year. This would cover more than half the population in the age group. It intends to develop a market research and marketing strategy for the youth service, and has asked the voluntary sector to do the same.
The vision is set out in the National Youth Service Strategy for Wales, which also states that the government is investing 200,000 to evaluate provision and in scoping work for the implementation of the strategy.
The government says its aim is to increase investment in youth services from April 2008. Details will depend on Welsh Assembly Government budgets, and the strength of local authority arguments.
