Jon Niblo, a project manager at Durham County Youth and Community Service, replaced former chair, Peter Harris, last month.
Niblo, who was a youth worker in the Northeast for 10 years, joined the federation in October 2004. He said: "Detached youth work projects across the country have a key role to play in the development of children's services. We need to build on the lessons learned from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's research on street-based youth work, in terms of ensuring effective funding, resourcing and staffing." Priorities for the federation's 10-strong executive include sec uring additional funding to ensure stability and developing a training strategy and new standards of excellence, he added.
