Although the MP for Bethnal Green and Bow's youth disorder and engagement bill stands almost no chance of becoming law, it does highlight concerns within the Labour ranks about the general level of support for youth services.
King introduced the bill to Parliament after residents in her east London constituency convinced her at a meeting that more police and better youth services were the answers to "youth disorder".
"It is a scandal that such an important area of service provision is not a statutory duty," she said. "It is now time to crack down on antisocial local authorities that do not take young people's need seriously."
