Youth Services: Guide to advise on cost of youth work

The Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers (APYCO) and The National Youth Agency are taking a fresh look at the issue in the light of the Education and Inspections Act 2006. The Act placed a duty on authorities to provide positive activities and consider contracting out youth service delivery.

Being able to place a figure on how much should be spent on youth services would help authorities to ensure contracts include appropriate resources.

Susie Roberts, chief executive of APYCO, said: "Instead of basing youth service budgets on what has previously been allocated, we want to take a much more scientific approach."
