Youth services: Apyco looks at practices to reflect service change

The Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers (Apyco) made the decision to look at the way it operates at its spring conference last week.

Susie Roberts, the chief executive, said: "We intend to make sure Apyco continues to meet the needs of heads of local authority youth services, no matter what their job titles might be."

Apyco is concerned that some individual directors of children's services are not aware of the potential of youth work, and is planning to produce a document for them on the subject. Roberts said: "The Association of Directors of Children's Services fully understands the opportunities youth work has to offer. We know that by working with them."
