The London Borough of Bromley is bringing together its youth service, youth offending, Connexions and leaving care teams under a head of adolescent services.
The appointee will oversee the teams and develop policy for integrated and targeted adolescent services, and will report to the assistant director for children's social care services.
Bromley brought its youth service in-house last year when a 10-year contract with Prospects was terminated early to ease the transition to children's trusts (YPN, 12-18 April 2006, p5).
Susie Roberts, chair of the Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers, said: "This job title was very common in the past as part of a social work model."
