Youth services: Excellence centre mooted for services

The social exclusion plan released this week outlines measures to work with and "strengthen" the activities of existing bodies such as the Improvement and Development Agency, the Social Care Institute of Excellence, Research in Practice, Government Social Research and government departments.

The Government is also exploring the possibility of setting up a Centre of Excellence for Children's and Family Services. The centre would identify, evaluate and disseminate good practice in the provision of services to children and families.

A spokeswoman for the Cabinet Office said: "It will act as a clearing house for evidence from national and international sources and ensure we learn from small, innovative providers."
