Youth Services: Chancellor praises youth councils at conference

Brown identified looked-after children, offenders and disabled young people as people who have been failed by social policy, and called for a "new compact" between the voluntary sector and the public sector.

Ellie Rose, policy officer at the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, urged organisations to have their say on how the current compact is serving their needs at the web site www.thecompact.gov.uk.

Brown said the Government was right to be tough on anti-social behaviour, but added: "Let us in every area of the country champion youth councils and youth budgets, young people deciding for themselves the shape of youth facilities in their communities."
