Budget 2006: Chancellor's public spending review to include youth work

A series of departmental reviews will be run to inform next year's comprehensive review of public sector spending across the Government. One of three sub-reviews at the Department for Education and Skills ordered by Gordon Brown will examine youth services.

Beverley Hughes, the minister for children and young people, told Young People Now the Government wants "a step change in youth services - using that term generically - in the kind of support and services that young people need". She added: "We want to look at how, in the context of universal services, we can focus on young people in danger of falling out of the mainstream."
