Youth services: Cambridge district receives bad report

1 min read

Cambridgeshire's report is one of the first five youth service inspections released this week by Ofsted, to be conducted under a new four-year cycle.

Barnsley, North Yorkshire, Nottingham City and Worcestershire youth services were all judged "satisfactory".

Cambridgeshire's youth service was criticised for a lack of purpose, inadequate collection, evaluation and monitoring, and insufficient staffing levels. It was praised for "good relationships" with young people.

Councillor Ramon Wilkinson, Cambridgeshire's cabinet member for education, libraries and heritage, said: "We accept that much needs to be done and have an action plan in place." Strengths across all five services included supportive workers, good reach of disadvantaged young people, and competent management. Weaknesses lay in young people's learning, quality assurance and deployment.
