YOUTH SERVICE: Youth Affairs Unit at De Montfort is awarded evaluation contract

1 min read

The unit, which is already undertaking a similar evaluation of the Connexions service, will be assessing the impact of youth work services of local authorities and the voluntary sector. It will report initial results in time for the next spending review in November, with final results released in summer 2004. The contract is worth around 500,000.

"It will be important for PYOs to offer us the opportunity to examine their services if we approach them as we will need access to their documents," said Malcolm Payne, director of the Youth Affairs Unit. "The aim of the project is to try and find out the impact of youth work on young people. The Government's concern is to persuade the Treasury to spend money on youth work, but we need to be able to demonstrate the impact of the services. Of course there will be implications but that depends on the outcome."
