YOUTH SERVICE: Local authorities to share 90m grant

The funds came out of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's annual review of local government funding.

Each local authority is free to decide where to spend its children's services money.

The National Youth Agency saw its funding increased by the rate of inflation to 1.46m.

Education secretary Charles Clark said the grants would give a "strong platform to develop the proposals set out in the green paper".
