YOUTH SERVICE: Kingston to face council overhaul

1 min read

The review, which will take a year, will assess Kingston's youth services and commitment to outreach work, after an Ofsted report in 2001 criticised the council for focusing on youth clubs instead of targeting young people on Kingston's streets.

Gillian Hall, head of youth services, said the review was regarded as a positive move.

She also said fears over youth service jobs being under threat were "completely untrue."

"We've got a historical youth service with cash tied into youth club buildings," said Hall. "It's about getting a balance between youth clubs and outreach work."

The council is recruiting another full-time outreach worker, and the review will involve young people.
