YOUTH SERVICE: Bedfordshire reorganises staff in line with reforms of service

1 min read

The revamp includes the hiring of eight full-time locality youth workers, for which the service's part-time workers are being given prior consideration.

Bedfordshire currently employs 30 full-time youth workers. Part-timers who carry out the equivalent work of four-and-a-half full-time youth work posts were made redundant at the end of December.

Belinda Evans, head of the youth service, said: "The changes are in response to the Resourcing Excellent Youth Services strategy and the new Ofsted inspection framework.

"We felt that the average part-time staff contract of five-and-a-half hours meant we couldn't effectively deliver services because staff couldn't dedicate time to training. So we are hiring full-time workers who we will train on both JNC accreditation and the Connexions diploma."
