Youth Justice: On-the-spot orders attract disapproval

A reform package put forward by Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, includes a proposal to allow senior constables to issue young people with interim ASBOs, rather than giving them a warning until they appear in court.

Richard Garside, director of the Crime and Society Foundation, said ASBOs are already unnecessary and that the proposal could be a "licence for potential abuse of police power".
