Project: Cardiff Youth Offending Team Cricket Initiative 2006 Mission: To divert young people from anti-social behaviour Funding: 1,700 a year from the Youth Justice Board
Cardiff Youth Offending Team, in partnership with Cardiff Youth Service and Glamorgan Cricket Club, has begun its annual cricket initiative, which aims to help young people avoid involvement in antisocial behaviour.
The project targets young people attending four youth clubs - Eastmoores Youth Centre, Fitzalan, The Dome and Barnardo's Youth Project - located in Cardiff's inner-city area.
This year's programme will involve 40 to 50 young people attending two-hour cricket coaching sessions at Glamorgan County Cricket ground for a six-week period. Since the project began in 2000, about 200 young people have taken part in the sessions.
