The Manorroots project, based in Manor Park, Newham, is setting up the gym to provide an activity for the young people it works with, and to improve their health. The gym will be a source of information on healthy living, with professionals on hand to advise on diet as well as teaching the young people how to use the exercise equipment.
The equipment for the gym comes from Shokk, a company that makes exercise machines and weights for young people. Brand manager Kieran Murphy said the project is unique because the gym targets a specific group of young people, and has wider personal development aims, rather than just being a centre for young people to use.
