Hughes, MP for North Southwark and Bermondsey, said detached work could help tackle issues that lead young people to carry weapons. Delegates at the conference, held last weekend in Harrogate, voted to support crime policy paper Together We Can Cut Crime (YPN, 21-27 February, p7).
The motion highlighted proposals on youth crime, including more youth work schemes led by police intelligence, ensuring antisocial behaviour orders are a last resort, and giving young people in custody the same training as their peers.
