Policy: Lib Dems set to call for youth facilities

At a fringe event organised by think-tank Demos on Monday (18 September) Clegg was expected to argue that better youth provision was vital for local authorities to challenge antisocial behaviour. The party is in favour of rewriting planning rules so that youth centres have to be built as part of urban redevelopment and large-scale housing schemes.

On Wednesday (20 September), in a speech to conference, education spokeswoman Sarah Teather is due to argue for better eduction for 14-to-19-year-olds, with more emphasis on vocational skills. Liz Banks, education adviser for the Lib Dems, said: "The theme is that the Government has failed the poorest and most vulnerable."
