Youth Justice: Care and custody link established

The report, Juveniles in Custody 2003-2004, found that 47 per cent of young women and 39 per cent of young men in custody had spent time in care. Half of all young men and 44 per cent of young women in prison had not been in education since they were 14 or younger.

But the study did find that prison education had improved slightly since 2002. A total of 861 male and 84 female offenders were interviewed for the study.
