Youth Involvement: Carnegie scheme helps civil servants engage with young

1 min read

The officials from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs are the first to take part in Making it Count - a programme devised by Carnegie Young People Initiative.

A facilitator will work with groups of civil servants to help them overcome challenges in their working environment that can prevent them from engaging with young people. These include limited resources, rigid job descriptions and competing policy priorities from different ministers.

Facilitators also help civil servants to build connections with practitioners outside government, through meetings with participation experts and visits to youth projects.

A cross-departmental team of senior civil servants from the Welsh Assembly Government will be the next to benefit from the programme, starting this summer. It is then likely to be extended to civil servants in either Scotland or Northern Ireland.
