At a Community and Youth Workers' Union conference last week, Beverley Hughes, the minister for children and families, said: "When I talk to people about what they mean by a statutory youth service, they actually mean quite different things. We've certainly given thought to the different things that this means, and whether we should move in that direction."
Andy Driver, the youth work convenor of the union, said the green paper has been changed recently in favour of youth services. "It has changed quite a lot in the past few weeks," he said. "The youth service is experiencing a bit of a renaissance."
