YOUTH CRIME: Met's youth strategy faces change in leadership

Paddick, who took over the Metropolitan Police's youth remit in August (YPN, 20-26 August, p2), is standing in as the acting deputy assistant commissioner and plans to apply for the permanent role in the New Year.

Until a decision on that role is made, Paddick will share responsibility for youth strategy with Commander Jim Smith, who has been drafted in from Scotland's Lothian and Borders police force.

Details on how the arrangement would work were unclear as YPN went to press and Smith is not expected to begin work until the middle of December, despite Paddick's new job having begun on 1 December.
