Youth clubs: Minister supports idea of self-funding clubs

1 min read

Parmjit Dhanda said the entrepreneurial spirit shown by some of the centres he visited was impressive.

"In one case they've set up a bike store in a youth club, which is selling bikes using the services and knowledge of people about mountain bikes as an income stream," he said. "In another they are writing a book about stress relief, and they believe that could be an income generator.

"I'd like to see if we can use these examples to support sustainability within these youth projects for the longer term."

Dhanda has visited seven clubs across England in the past month to get young people's views on the progress of the ideas in Youth Matters. He outlined his findings in a speech to The National Youth Agency's Youth Summit this week.
