Young take control in mock courtroom

1 min read Youth Justice Youth Work
The tables are to be turned on the authorities in Camden when young people become the judges in a mock courtroom.

Pupils from the London borough will take part in the scheme on Friday (9 November) and will see borough police commander, Mark Heath, being accused of harassing the young people of Camden through inappropriate use of stop and search.

The court is part of Inside Justice Week, which will involve Camden and Islington Councils joining forces to create a programme of events based around young people and crime. A series of workshops will run at secondary schools across the boroughs where discussions will be held about domestic violence, knife crime, peer pressure, life choices and the support and advice available.

Heath said that while the events were trying to make the legal system interesting for young people, it was important to remember that there were serious issues behind the events.
