While increasing knife crime is a worry across the country, it is a particular concern in Northamptonshire, where Ministry of Justice data shows there was a 78 per cent jump – to 323 – in the number of people convicted of carrying a knife between 2013 and 2018.
In addition, organised crime – such as county lines drugs gangs – are also known to be targeting young people in the county’s main town Northampton.
To tackle this, Northampton Borough Council has, in partnership with local organisations, set up a service using youth clubs to target 10- to 17-year-olds who are involved in, or at risk of, low-level criminal activity.
