Provider: PhotoVoice
Name: Lookout project
The adage goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that's exactly the view of PhotoVoice.
The charity, established in 2003 by two Edinburgh University students, aims to give disadvantaged and marginalised communities a voice and an opportunity to be heard through the medium of photography.
PhotoVoice works with people of all ages from across the world, engaging them in interactive photography programmes and teaching them the digital storytelling skills required to express their take on the issues affecting then.
Initially started as a voluntary initiative in Vietnam and Nepal in the 1990s, the charity's most recently completed project worked with young people aged 16 to 25 years old in Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham, Liverpool and London over a three-year period.
