Good Idea: Charity tunes young people into learning through music

2 mins read Youth Work
A North Yorkshire charity uses young people's interest in music to develop their personal and social skills and bring communities together.

Provider: Nymaz

"Music is a great leveller and you would be hard-pressed to find a child or young person who says they don't like music at all," explains Heidi Johnson director of charity Nymaz.

Johnson is a firm believer in the power of music to engage young people in learning: "All young people access music but creating or participating in your own music is great at all levels.

"Within those early years music can be great for development, particularly hand-eye co-ordination and they can learn a great deal in terms of social skills, about taking turns, interacting with parents and developing a real sense of wellbeing."
