Gypsy and Traveller young people take issues to MEPs

Youth Work
A group of young people from Gypsy and Traveller communities in Scotland has travelled to the European Parliament in Brussels on an awareness-raising campaign.

During their four-day trip they met MEPs and staged Who We Are workshops, which they have previously used in schools to explain their way of life and challenge prejudice.

One of the MEPs the young people met was Livia Jaroka, a Hungarian from a Roma background, who spoke about her experiences and those of Gypsies and Travellers across Europe.

Justine, one of the nine young people involved, said: "I really enjoyed visiting the parliament and discussing problems with the MEPs. I thought it was really important that we got to tell the MEPs about our projects and the positive impact that we want them to have for the future."
