Young people help out in West Sussex

More than 1,000 young people took part in volunteering initiatives in West Sussex last month, as part of Volunteers' Week.

Youth volunteering agency Outset Youth Action arranged a variety of opportunities for young people aged from 13 to 25, including working with elderly residents and helping out at schools, play schemes and health trusts.

Sally Sikora, chief executive of Outset, said the financial climate has led to many unemployed young people coming forward to volunteer to maintain their work skills while looking for future employment.
