Young Offenders: Investigation held into custody death

Police said Gareth Myatt died after losing consciousness while being restrained by three members of staff at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre in Rugby. He was pronounced dead the same day. It is the first death at a secure training centre and police have launched an investigation.

Roy Walker, chair of the Secure Accommodation Network, said: "This is shattering news and my thoughts go out to the family and the staff. Clearly, I would expect a review of all techniques used in secure care to follow this dreadful incident."

Northamptonshire Police said details of the exact circumstances would not be released until enquiries are completed.
