The move aims to give young prisoners the chance to get exactly the same recognition as those outside the youth custody system and help them give something back to society.
The involvement of young people from Castington will form a central part of research into the benefits of young offenders undergoing the award programme. Alan Tranter, who will lead on the award at the institution, said: "Having an award will make such a difference to the lives of people who do it here - not just the usual benefits like self-esteem and confidence but also having the chance to do something society told them they could never get."
There are now 51 secure units and 67 youth offending teams actively running the award programme.
Of the 275,000 young people in the UK working towards the award, 537 are young offenders.
