YJB removes identity data

Youth Justice
The Youth Justice Board has removed potentially illegal data on young offenders from a controversial computer system.

The action comes after pressure group Action on Rights For Childrenraised concerns with the Information Commissioner's Office last yearthat data uploaded to the system could lead to children beingidentified.

A YJB spokeswoman said the organisation has adopted "interim measures"for the youth justice management information system (YJMIS) that havebeen agreed with the commissioner's office.

The system will now only record the year of birth, with otherpotentially identifiable information, such as religion and partialpostcode, no longer visible.

"We are advising all youth offending teams to continue to use thesystem," YJB director of performance Lucy Dawes said.
