YJB report omits crucial data

1 min read Youth Justice
The latest Youth Justice Board (YJB) statistics are under the spotlight after it emerged that key information was omitted from a recently published report.

The Annual Workload Data report gathers statistics from 157 youth offending teams - but CYP Now has learned that not all of the data collected was published.

The situation came to light after a reference to an increase in the length of sentences was withdrawn a day after publication because it clashed with another statement that the average time in custody has reduced.

Figures in the report show the average length of time spent in custody runs at 76 days - a drop of two days on 2004/05 figures.

However, a statement elsewhere in the document reveals education and training at institutions is suffering due to increases in sentence lengths.
